Researcher in residence

Are you really into NZ and its heritage and raring to get into some research? Then keep reading, this is what you have been waiting for!

The Auckland Library Heritage Trust, in association with Auckland Council, is offering a new research scholarship using the Sir George Grey Special Collections at the Central City Library. Unique opportunities like this don't come along very often. So if you want to immerse yourself in one of the major collections in NZ, find out more about Grey’s wonderful legacy and focus on a research project, then look no further!

As well as rare and historic books and documents, the Grey collections include maps, photographs, sketches, drawings, oral history and musical recordings, sheet music, and a host of ephemeral items, many relating to the performing arts.

The scholarship is open to NZers and overseas visitors to NZ. To apply you need to have a research proposal based on material held in the Sir George Grey Special Collections. The scope for the proposal is broad, just like the breadth of the collections, so you could focus on NZ, the Pacific or international subjects. This gives you lots of options to choose a topic that you really interests you and which reflects and explores the treasures in the collections.

Applications close on 14 June 2013 and the lucky person will be announced on 15 July 2013. The scholarship runs from 1 August 2013 to 31 July 2014 and includes a $1000 grant.

Find out more about how to apply and you can also contact Georgia Prince on 09 307 7677 to discuss this opportunity further. This position has also been profiled on the Ministry for Culture and Heritage Manatū Taonga website.

On another note, Heritage et AL is going on a bit of a holiday ... Don't worry, we will still be posting just not as frequently and will back to normal in mid July. Watch out for guest writers during this time and stay tuned!
